The Poisoned Pumpkin

The village of Much Fealham On The Hill is famous for its Halloween dance which showcases the carving of pumpkins by the villagers. The most well-known of these is Annie Seed who started the practice when she owned the village sweet shop with her twin sister Candy. The dance is held as close to Halloween as possible and each year Annie outdoes her previous design. Everyone in the village looks forward to the unveiling of the pumpkins which is normally done when all the guests have arrived.

This year Candy is expected to return to the village following the death of her husband Walker Kane and villagers are wondering how the twins will behave with each other as they have not been in touch for 20 years.

Will someone new win the carving competition and will sparks fly when the twins confront each other?

In The Dead of Winter

Betty Diddit, the well-known crime reporter, has decided to have a wake before she dies so that she can say goodbye to all her friends and relations. There may be people present who will be only too happy that she is dying but also some people may be sad. Will anyone help her on her way earlier than expected? Will someone show their hand as being two-faced so that they will get her fortune? Only time will tell.

Hey Man, it’s the 60’s

After spending the last 10 years living in the Haight-Asbury district of San Francisco, Jemima Letterby has returned home to write a book about her experiences with the 60’s hippy culture.Many local people in the village of Much Fealham on The Hill wish that she had stayed away as they are not happy with her very liberal views on everything. They think that it is about time she acted her age and they are concerned about the effect she might have on the younger members of the village.

Curiosity Killed The Cat

Crystal Ball is well known within the village of Much Fealham on The Hill for being an eccentric cat lover. The local hostelry has arranged a fund raising evening because they are aware that she no longer has the funds to support her benevolence. However, no one knows if she is going to turn up because earlier in the day her beloved cat Baynes was found dead and she has told everyone that he was killed by a neighbour’s dog. The innkeeper has been to see the neighbour but could not find him; all he saw was the dog attached to a railway sleeper by a chain……….

Did the dog kill the cat???.......Where is the neighbour???.......Is Crystal really just an eccentric or someone more sinister???............. Only time will tell……..

A Mole At Dinner

QX4 is the head of a secret government department that gathers intelligence for many other government agencies. Following a burglary at his office a few weeks ago when a sensitive document entrusted to his care was stolen, he has gathered together current field operatives and department administrators in an attempt to find out who is guilty of the crime.

A Night To Forget

The sudden sailing of the liner ‘Lusitanic’ has left passengers confused and agitated. Certain passengers and members of the crew will be expected to dine with the Captain. It is expected an announcement will be made as to why the ship has left port early. Rumour has it that details of a body found shortly before sailing, clothed in nothing more than a lifejacket…will be disclosed! If you are coming to the dinner it may be prudent to wear your lifejacket! Don’t say you haven’t been warned.

A Newer Lease Of Life

Professor Felix Cited, a researcher and Biochemist claims to have produced a new drug that will rejuvenate the over fifties. Hans Zoffer a local entrepreneur is promoting the new drug ‘Liver Gen’ and is intending to show just how effective a course of pills can be. To support him with his promotion is his girl friend, Faye Sake and Ernest Noring who has been taking a course of ‘Liver Gen’ for some time.

Funds for All

Local inhabitants of the village and surrounding area have been left £5,000,000 in the will of the late Joseph Kerr of Waddington. A trust has been set up to distribute sums of money to any person or group showing good causes or need. A local person has been appointed administrator and is heading the dinner for the purposes of receiving claims and allocating sums of money. Rumour has it that the administrator is biased towards one or two of the charities but they do not include the Orphanage or the Donkey Sanctuary. It is also expected that certain local persons will be present to ensure fair play. It is obvious there will be tears before bedtime.... but who will be doing what.... to whom... and why....?

The Wedding Party

The Bride and Bridegroom are intending to have a meal before they leave for their honeymoon. The Bride is several months pregnant. The Wedding Register appears to have been stolen and although the couple have gone through a marriage ceremony they have not yet signed the Register. They are married in the eyes of God but are not legally married. The Vicar is most apologetic because of the ‘legal problems’ but is determined to have a good time anyway.

Capone Capers

It’s the Godmothers birthday and ‘Al’ has sent one of his men to deliver a message, but is it one of good tidings? Prima is concerned and very edgy as to why ‘Al’ has sent a personal messenger to her party. Normally he just sends a birthday card. Prima has been the English Godmother for some years since her husband Rico died. As Godmother of the English sector, it’s her job to ensure that members of the organisation keep in line, and to arrange for profits from the organisation’s dealings to be sent back to ‘Al’s’ HQ in the USA.

Blue Murder At St Dinians

Miss Millicent Fripp BA (Cantab) headmistress of the renowned St Dinians Girls School is hosting a charity dinner to raise funds. She feels that a fact-finding visit to Mauritius would be advantageous to her ‘Gals’. She proposes to spend all of the time in Mauritius allowing her geology students as much time as they wish examining sand and coral specimens. Local Schools Inspector, Grant Notalot, has objected to the proposed overseas visit by freezing the schools funding account. Representatives of the sixth form studying geology, parents and teaching staff will be at the dinner to support Miss Millicent Fripp. The music teacher, Demi Crotchet has composed a new school anthem and is hoping all present at the diner will endorse it.

Magicians Dinner

The newly formed Magic Society is holding its first annual conference. Self-appointed Chairman and founder of the society, Marvo the Hypnotist, is expected to preside at the dinner tonight. Mervo the Illusionist is at the dinner intending to show the conference a series of new disappearing acts. Paul Spaniels the up and coming ‘Catch the Bullet in the Teeth’ magician is present with his assistant ‘The Wonderful Wendy’. Ray Taylor newly appointed society’s honorary treasurer will be at the dinner primarily to give a financial report. Mystic Maude Higgins has arrived uninvited hoping to join the society.

The Disappearance

Some years ago, as a result of an accident, Sir Vere D’Preshone fell overboard from a cross channel ferry and was presumed drowned. His wife Liza has since reverted to her maiden name of Lott and continues her life to the full. Recently, she received information from a self-taught medium that contact has been made with her late husband on the other side! Liza and her husband made a pact that whoever left this earth first, would return briefly and take the other away for eternity. Although she has guilty feelings of infidelity she remains excited, and is holding a dinner to celebrate what she says, ‘Is a sign’ that her husband will return for her.
